Monday 9/9

Dani took a little stroll this afternoon. During his therapy session they had him walking. They did have to help him but they don't think he will be using the wheelchair for a very long time. As he was walking they monitored his blood pressure. They told LeeAnn that his blood pressure did not rise as he walked so that was a good sign that he will improve.

He also took a trip outside in the wheelchair today and was able to stay out for about 20 minutes. He was even able to maneuver the chair himself for awhile. Just from yesterday it's so promising to see the improvements.

The therapists said he was easy to work with. He did not even try to fight them. They did tell LeeAnn that Dani's biggest obstacle is going to be with his short term memory.

  Saturday 9/7 & Sunday 9/8
I forgot to tell everyone that the Swelling on the left side of Dani's head has subsided considerably. We are praying that they will be able to perform the surgery to re-insert the skull bone as quickly as possible.

Sunday 9/8

Today is a day of rest because tomorrow will be Dani's first day of therapy. (They just don't realize that LeeAnn has been putting him through rigerous therapy sessions of her own.)

Dani still has his sweet heart for he has a very angry neighbor and when LeeAnn asked what they should say to his neighbor he said "We love Him".

Saturday 9/7

Dani is gradually putting sentences together. He speaks very slowly and sometimes gets very confused about what he wants to say.

He was able to take a ride in a wheelchair outside today. Big mistake though letting Sami drive.(Not really) But Dani can't take being up in the chair for very long just a ride outside and he is ready to return inside then needs to rest.

He was assesed by the therapist today and they were very pleased that the muscles in Dani's right arm and leg were loose instead of being tightened already. They asked if someone had been working with him. OOOHHH YEA, that would be his mom.

  Thursday 9/5 & Friday 9/6
Friday 9/6

DANI HAS MADE IT TO HARMARVILLE!! He even said "Hi" to me on the phone. LeeAnn said he was able to answer all the doctor's questions. He still gets tired very easy.

Visiting hours for Dani are 10:00am to 8:30pm. On weekdays it is best to go after 4:30pm because he will be in therapy sessions.

Again remember that Dani does tire very easily. He may only be able to withstand short visits for awhile but he is still the same fun loving Dan and is anxious to see his friends. We family members just aren't enough entertainment although we have been putting forth a great effort. (Dani I hope you WILL forget the chorus line but we'll keep that just between you, your mom and I.)

Thursday 9/5

The third time was the charm, Dani received a helmet that fits today. They had him standing up (with help) and he was able to sit in a chair.

Dani will be moving to Harmarville at 2:00pm on Friday afternoon. HE WILL NO LONGER BE AT ALLEGHENY GENERAL HOSPITAL HOSPITAL.

LeeAnn wanted everyone to know that Dani will be able to have some visitors while he is at Harmarville but don't be dissapointed if you happen to visit and he is sleeping or tired. You may only get to visit with him for a short period of time but LeeAnn feels it will be an inspiration to Dani to know how many people care about him and are here for him through his recovery.

  Tuesday 9/3 & Wednesday 9/4
I guess I have some catching up to do.

On Tuesday Dani was fitted for a helmet but the helmet did not fit right so they had to try again on Wednesday but it still didn't fit so maybe the third time will be the charm. LeeAnn is anxious for him to get his helmet so he can try to get up. They won't let him up without it because it will be to dangerous if he would happen to fall and hit his head again.

Also on Tuesday Dani was fed some applesauce and HE SWALLOWED IT. (I don't think he liked it but he did swallow it.) Now he can start eating some soft foods. When LeeAnn went into the hospital on Wednesday morning the feeding tube was removed. (She of course had to ask Dan "who" removed it. He smiled and pointed out into the hallway.) Wednesday he ate several bites of Spaghetti and a few small pieces of bread. It will take some time before he will be able to drink clear liquids for they go down his throat to fast not giving him enough time to swallow.

Also on Wednesday they put a brace on his right arm and leg to keep the tendons stretched out.

Now for some real exciting "stuff".

Dani's Aunt Jackie and Uncle Fred were in to visit him Wednesday afternoon and LeeAnn wispered something in Dani's ear and to Jackie and Fred's surprise Dani whispered "Fred". Of course he didn't want to leave Aunt Jackie out so he recited her name also. Isn't that Great?!! LeeAnn did have to tell him the names and have him repeat them since it will take him some time to be able to verbalize his thoughts.

I noticed a few more dollars hanging on the wall. I think one was for something he uttered as the feeding tube was being removed. Let's just say it must not have felt to good.

He slightly wiggled the toes on his right foot and can still slightly move his right thumb.

They are planning on moving him to Harmarville either Friday or Monday.

LeeAnn held up a note for Dani Wednesday that said
"Can you read this?" and GUESS WHAT HE SHOOK HIS HEAD YES!!!

The doctor's have all been amazed at Dani's progress and they attribute it mainly to all the interaction that LeeAnn and Aaron have been giving him. They have really been such an inspiration and we know that they wouldn't have been able to do it without the grace of god answering everyone's prayers. "I heard you"

Remember to wear a helmet when skateboarding !!!
